Coliving is the modern concept for working people. So-called digital nomads live and work together and develop the innovations of tomorrow. The number of freelancers has increased by 400,000 people in the last 10 years. A growing customer group for the housing industry with specific requirements. This presents above all the housing industry with challenges and at the same time offers opportunities for new leasing concepts.
The most important things:
- The idea for Coliving was born in California and is now also available in German cities, such as Berlin and Hamburg.
- Leisure time and job are increasingly intermingling
- The housing industry must react in particular to new construction and refurbishment
What is Coliving?
It is rumored that so-called Coliving concepts belong to the future. It is the modern residential community for working people. Not only is there an apartment shared, but ideas and business plans are developed together. The world of work is in transition. In particular, young people want to make their everyday work increasingly independent. For many, 9 to 5 sitting in the office does not fit into the concept of life.
What does coliving mean?
Coliving is aimed at the self-employed, startup founders, digital nomads or students. Under one roof you will both be used to living and working together. High comfort and the construction of an efficient network have a high priority here.
The boundaries between work and leisure are blurred in Coliving homes. In the common room only the party of the last weekend, then the business idea of the roommate is discussed. This is not the classic student flat share.
Dicey kitchen utensils, battered plates, and the worn-out couch of their parents have no place in a Coliving Space. Rather, one finds a modern furnished apartment before. The dispute over the cleaning plan is also superfluous. Renting one into a Coliving Space, one usually gets a complete package: rent, utilities, cleaning, coworking and – most importantly – high-speed Internet are understood as a matter of course. The rent is above the normal Mietspiegel.
9 to 5 was yesterday: Freelancers and founders looking for flexibility and community. That Coliving is not the ideal concept for every working person, is obvious.
As a clerk, a day homeoffice is sometimes nice and good, but working from home every day? How is that supposed to work? For many young people, this works surprisingly well. So-called digital nomads (or English “digital nomads”) can do without a permanent job in the office well. All they need to work is their laptop and a power outlet. So you can choose your work environment. Sitting alone on your computer in your own home every day does not irritate some. The danger of getting lonely is great. In addition, a creative environment with like-minded people is often motivating and encourages ideas. That is why founders and young freelancers are looking for coworking spaces.
